【摘要】:Thesignificanceofmeasuringalgalgrowthpotentialinwatersamplesisthatdifferentiationcanbemadebetweenthenutrientsofasampledeterminedbychemicalanalysisandthenutrientsthatareactuallyavailableforalgalgrowth.Theadditionofnutrients(usuallynitrogenandphosphorussinglyorincombination)tothesamplecangiveanindicationofwhichnutrient(s)is(are)limitingforalgalgrowth(1,10,11,12,13,14).1.1ThispracticemeasuresbyPseudokirchnereillasubcapitatagrowthresponse,thebiologicalavailabilityofnutrients,ascontrastedwithchemicalanalysisofthecomponentsofthesample.Thispracticeisusefulforassessingtheimpactofnutrients,andchangesintheirloading,uponfreshwateralgalproductivity.Otherlaboratoryorindigenousalgaecanbeusedwiththispractice.However,Pseudokirchnereillasubcapitatamustbeculturedasareferencealgaalongwiththealternativealgalspecies.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Foraspecificprecautionarystatement,seeSection.
